dongrave at last finds concensus, at least with me. No one has yet said the puzzle is solved by basics only, but it's true. I've solved it three times with basics only and I think dongrave agrees.

Rocky; this is a very good puzzle. The key for me was getting to the point that revealed the 456 XY-wing by using the 8 Xwing, the 345 trip followed by the 46 pair. After that I used a bunch of pairs, ...

No Marty, I was not able to find additional basics in your grid. I guess most of us missed the hidden pair of 12, which solves the puzzle using basics only. They can be devilish to spot.

I always play the hard puzzles in hopes of finding the somewhat rare one that requires very challenging basics. This one is a classic example. I would say that this puzzle was more fun than 90 percen ...

Clement, after looking at your after-basics code I see much more basic work that can be done. After a fashion, you end up with a BUG+1 in box 8 which is another 1-stepper solution. Many hiddens in thi ...

I do believe the UR on 67 is disallowed because it violates the definition of a UR which says it must be within 2 rows, 2 columns, and 2 boxes. This UR lies within 4 boxes.

I agree with danw, basics all the way with the key being r3c6=5, which reveals a 467 trip in c4. This ultimately sets r6c4=9, revealing the solution.

I got it right the first try but really screwed ...

hughwill, I can't find an x-wing on 7 in r24; leaving the 37 UH as a one stepper. But my eyes have been known to fool me on occasion.

This puzzle gave me fits, a brain cramp and glazed eyeballs. I restarted 3 times out of an error condition. Good set of basics and cleanups after the wings.

Snagged a 579 XY-wing-pivot r8c4 setting r7c8<>9. Don't see any more low-hanging fruit, but with all those pairs, you never can tell.
