If you fill in the pencilmarks, you probably will not to see the wood for the trees.
There are 3 hidden pairs at the beginning. One of them leads to the first number.
At least one advanced (but easy-to-spot) step needed later.

Lots of 89s, some of which can be established as conjugate, via the 8s: then kill 9s.

I'll be the contrarian; I can't kick the PMs habit and can't spot hidden pairs and triples. This was certainly an interesting puzzle, with no freebies at the start and a huge number of polyvalued cells.

I spotted the hidden pairs via the complementary naked quads and quints. Then a pattern emerged, where it seemed every time a cell was solved or number(s) eliminated via locked candidates, a hidden single or naked triple or quad emerged.

This continued until most cells were down to two or three candidates, most of which were 1s, 8s and 9s. Then the advanced step mentioned by Ravel was played, solving the puzzle.

this is the one step medusa solution. the 9 in r7c7 is quickly eliminated from seeing a red nine in r7c3 and a green 9 in r3c7.

That works too. I used the W-Wing on 89 in boxes 3 and 6, connected by the 9s in column 8.
