I also had to use three steps: color (6), W-wing (68), then color (8).
Anyone do it more directly?

Well, you did it in half the steps I used. Immediately after the w-wing, I found a Type 3 UR on <79>, which opened a Type 1 UR on <39>. Then I saw a m-wing on <68> and finally the color on <8>. Obviously the two URs and the m-wing were not useful (but added to the fun).

Edit: Where did the smiley faces come from?
Edit: I disabled smiley faces

Not me, i had a combination of UR, grouped skysraper, w-wing, xy-wing and w-wing to get a single number (a skyscraper finished then).
Very nice puzzle.

If you dont "Disable Smilies in this post" the combination "8)" will be displayed as a smiley.
