				| An X-wing on 5 leads to r1c6=5, which solves it. |

I think you made a typo.

r1c6 = 3

after x-wing on 5 in columns 3 and 9.

which solves it.

I did this 3 times using basics only. Can someone point out the error of my ways?

Lee, you can eliminate all the 5's in box 1 column 2 which sets r3c6 to 5 solving the puzzle. |

I did this twice and found it to be solved by basics. I came to this point:

 	  | Code: |

+------------+-----------+-------------+

| 2   489 59 | 346 1  35 | 7  68  45   |

| 6   47  57 | 2   9  8  | 34 1   345  |

| 1   48  3  | 467 67 57 | 9  68  2    |

+------------+-----------+-------------+

| 4   1   79 | 379 5  37 | 8  2   6    |

| 359 579 2  | 1   8  6  | 34 457 3479 |

| 359 6   8  | 79  4  2  | 1  57  379  |

+------------+-----------+-------------+

| 59  59  4  | 67  67 1  | 2  3   8    |

| 8   3   1  | 5   2  9  | 6  47  47   |

| 7   2   6  | 8   3  4  | 5  9   1    |

+------------+-----------+-------------+

I saw that row 3 only had a 5 in column 6 and the puzzle solved out from there. I may have made the same lucky guess mistake twice but that's what I found.

				Seems to be basics only.

To check, I used Hint and Grade. After setting about 12 singles, the grade changes from Very Hard to just Hard.

Maybe there is a tedium factor in the grading. |

				| I did this a few times and got some different results, but twice it solved with basics, once with pencil and paper and once using Draw/Play. |

I agree with danw, basics all the way with the key being r3c6=5, which reveals a 467 trip in c4. This ultimately sets r6c4=9, revealing the solution.

I got it right the first try but really screwed up in trying to confirm. The deep weeds swallowed me up and I punted with the T1 UR 67 which yielded a solution, but I can't remember how.

Puzzles with huge numbers of pencil marks give me troubles. At this point I usually break out the trusty old box-line reduction tool and apply it systematically to all rows, columns, and boxes, repeated until I get all the basics. |
