You did better than me. I used X-Wings on 5 and 8.

You both did better then me, to be honest I still don't see Clement's solution after x wings on 5. I needed the x wing on 5's then x wing on 3's (r68) then xyz wing 679 (pivot r3c8).

I was totally challenged and really had a lot of fun though.

Play this puzzle online at the Daily Sudoku site

I can see that the X-wing on 5 is a one-stepper, though it needs a naked
pair and two box-lines on 3's to come to the crucial elimination leaving r3c4=3.

I didn't see an X wing on 8 nor did I understand Clement's elimination (and
this is despite just having had a holiday!).

Clement made eliminations on 5 in r24c1 and r4c9. It took me a while before I figured it out. I don't see an X-Wing on 8 either, but I could easily play a wing that isn't there.

Thanks Hugh for explaining the box lines on 3's. It is one of my weaknesses not following through on all the basics once I have found an elimination. Even my x wing on 3's would have been enough to discover that same elimination but I needed to add an XYZ wing to my solution. Learning and striving for efficiency and I appreciate the lessons.
