I found a compact xy-wing which eliminated the <8> at R3C6 and the puzzle opened up.

I did it this way, but noticed that getting a 2 at r7c3 relied on "factorising" col 6, the 2 aforementioned 2 falls out immediately by using the corresponding XY wing that removes the 8 from r7c4!

I'm not sure I found the same thing - but I had to use a 13, 18, 38 set twice (both pivots on 13) - and then still needed a skyscraper on 9s (R19).

Probably missed an easy step.

The same xy-wing with pivot in R5C5, which results in a naked [129] triple in R3, and opens the puzzle.

The XY-Wing on 13-18-38 solved it for me. Prior to that I played a Finned X-Wing which didn't matter, but I saw that move first.

Funny thing is, there are two 13-18-38 XY wings, as cgordon pointed out, both the same pivot, though I only used the 'top' one and don't recall requiring any 'advanced' techniques after that.

sdq_pete:

Yeah you are right - only one xy needed 38(R3)-18(R4)-13(R5)pivot.
After that nothing advanced - though I found it hard to spot the eliminations. Sudokued out maybe.
