				| XY-Wing -<78>-<47>-<48> eliminates 8 in r5c1 followed by an X-Wing in 2s Col 2 & Col 8 eliminating 2 in r1c3 solves the puzzle. |

Hi iiggoorr,

The following is my code after basics:

 	  | Code: |

 *-----------------------------------------------------------*

 | 1     24    23    | 9     38    5     | 6     248   7     |

 | 246   5     236   | 7     138   18    | 48    9     248   |

 | 7     8     9     | 4     6     2     | 3     1     5     |

 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|

 | 3     1     78    | 2     5     47    | 9     468   468   |

 | 248   6     5     | 3     48    9     | 1     7     248   |

 | 9     24    278   | 18    1478  6     | 5     248   3     |

 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|

 | 5     7     4     | 6     9     18    | 2     3     18    |

 | 268   9     268   | 18    247   3     | 478   5     1468  |

 | 268   3     1     | 5     247   47    | 478   468   9     |

 *-----------------------------------------------------------* |

Given this code, I assume you are referring to the 18 pattern in box89 and row78. If so, that arrangement is not a valid UR pattern. To be valid, the four cells forming the UR must be in two rows, two columns and two boxes. (This forms a rectangle in two boxes.)

A good description of the UR is available at http://www.sudocue.net/guide.php#UR.

Sounds like my one-stepper - x-wing on 2 which I used early on before finishing basics. No worries mate. |
