The Oct 22 VH has many paths; a one-two, with an alternate two; or a single haymaker.

Solutions: X-wing (6) followed by an xy-wing (178), or a Bug+1 which makes R6C7 = 8. Or an xy-chain R8C5 to R9C7 with a 9 pincer does it in one step.

I missed something, as I used an X-Wing and two kites before the puzzle-ending XY-Wing.

After basics:
Code:
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| 67  67  2   | 3   1   8   | 4   9   5   |
| 5   8   4   | 9   7   6   | 1   3   2   |
| 3   1   9   | 2   4   5   | 7   8   6   |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| 1   9   68  | 7   26  4   | 28  5   3   |
| 2   3   5   | 1   8   9   | 6   7   4   |
| 67  4   678@| 56  256 3   | 289 1   89% |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| 9   67  167#| 68  3   2   | 5   4  -18  |
| 8   5  -16  | 4   69  7   | 3   2   19&|
| 4   2   3   | 58  59  1   | 89  6   7   |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+

Notice the DP 67 in chute 1. Either # is 1 and / or @ is 8. Forming a pseudocell 18 that makes an XY-wing with %&, eliminating 1 as shown. Puzzle is solved. (Makes my day!)

(If you stare at C3, you see that one of the 2 DP cells in C3 must be 7. Therefore neither can be 6. That does not solve the puzzle.)

No chains with pincers or DPs with pseudocells for me - I'm not into pain - just an x-wing and a Bug.

I still got it. I haven't done a puzzle in a long time. Happened to stop on in and found a VH puzzle, and about 7 minutes later, done. Wooohooo.

Two good moves in one step: spotting the 6-cell DP and then using the pseudocell in a xy-wing. Great and Great.

Hey Early Earl,
R6C7 is a 2, not an 8, isn't it?
