In my plodding style I take them as I see them until I reach a solution:
xy-wing on 248 followed by a type 1 UR on 48 did it for me.

I'm curious. How did this solution appear on July 27 before I could see the puzzle?

Hi Julian, welcome to the forum. Try this, it works for me as of 7:00 pm. Go to the puzzle page and click "Syndication" on the left. You should then see the puzzle for the following day. Click on the puzzle grid and the next puzzle you'll see is for the current day. Below that grid click the button to show the printable page. That should show the grid in the usual .pdf format. The date appears in the address bar. Change that to the next day and hit Enter on your keyboard. It should change to the next day's puzzle and you're ready to print.

The puzzle for a particular day becomes available according to local time. The time stamps are GMT, I think (or is that called UTC these days?).

Clement, in Tanzania, must do the puzzle shortly after midnight, local time. I do them around morning tea time, between 9.00 and 10.00 am here on the east cost of Australia. We are always ahead of the bunch (in terms of time, not ability in my case!) and generally have the solution for a given day before that day has even dawned in UK or US.

This would be an advantage if I wanted to claim 'first solution status', but I am not so inclined. The down side is that I have to wait a day to see everyone's comments, by which time I have forgotten the details of my own solution.

Cheers

Taking the XY wing I get to here:

Code:

+------------+-----------+--------+
| 38  9  5   | 7  34 6   | 48 2 1 |
| 238 1  4   | 28 23 5   | 7  9 6 |
| 6   7  28  | 1  9  248 | 48 3 5 |
+------------+-----------+--------+
| 249 6  29  | 3  5  24  | 1  7 8 |
| 1   28 3   | 6  7  28  | 9  5 4 |
| 48  5  7   | 48 1  9   | 2  6 3 |
+------------+-----------+--------+
| 7   24 1   | 24 6  3   | 5  8 9 |
| 289 3  289 | 5  28 1   | 6  4 7 |
| 5   48 6   | 9  48 7   | 3  1 2 |
+------------+-----------+--------+

Play this puzzle online at the Daily Sudoku site.

Am I missing something really obvious? The hint gives a 2 in r3c3.

Thanks
