A long process for me:-
1) A kite originating from BOX 7 sets r1c6<>9 opens an
2) XYZ-Wing 14 147 47 with apex in r1c6 sets r1c5<>4
3) UR in 34 removes 4 in r46c2 which opens another kite in 4 originating from BOX 7 setting r1c6<>4 this leads to
4) W-Wing 48 with strong link 4 in row 1 setting r7c1<>8 which finally solves it. |

I couldn't find any of the VH moves other than an apparently useless 148 XYZ-Wing. I used overlapping ERs on 49 to remove those two numbers from r1c6, setting up an XY-Wing (174) which removed 4 from r1c5 and from r3c3 after a pincer transport. The 34 UR, originally a Type 4, is now a Type 2 and finishes it off. |

It obviously isn't useless, but my analysis was. I just eyeballed it for apparent help and didn't carry it as far as an X-Wing search. |

Like Clement I used the kite and the XYZ wing, but, the third step for me was a finned X wing in 4. This solved th puzzle.

| I used the 14 in r1c2 (first doublet in the grid) If 1 then r4c9 is 1 directly and if not 1 than the 8s in boxes 7,8 and 5 fall out immediately and lead to r4c9 <>8 hence r3c9=8 AND A SOLUTION . I thought this was an act of desperation but if I can call it an M wing then great! |

| I used ERs to remove the 4 and 9 from R1C6 then an xy wing on 147. |
