Does any one care for this type of puzzle? No advanced moves required. I like to do them using pencil and paper with no pencil marks.

I don't care for them, perhaps because I'm so bad at them.

I guess no one except me (and perhaps Pat) finds these interesting, so I wont bother to post them.

keith, even though I'm really not a puzzle solver, I've started this in Simple Sudoku, without pencilmarks of course. I'm stumped after 10 placements. Do you (or anyone else) know of a solver program that gives hints based on a "no pencilmark grid?"

ronk,

Yes. Sudoku Susser allows you to turn off pencil marks and show next cells to be solved only by highlighting them, as you choose the progression of NAM solution techniques. Sudoku Susser is not very good at advanced techniques, but is a wonderful tool for puzzles that need only the "basics".

ronk,

Look for hidden pairs in R3 and C9.

To be quite honest, I find solving puzzles like this by inspection much more satisfying than using a solver to blast through the basics and then find an arcane chain.

But, other's preferences may vary.

Thanks, finally figured out this leads to completion of the 8s template. Now onward to the next "break through", for me anyway. Smile

[edit: Reposted with the following addition]

keith, would you please be so kind as to post your next hint(s)?

Code:

 |.8.|...|41.|
 |21.|.48|76.|
 |634|..9|..8|
 |---+---+---|
 |.63|8..|9..|
 |.2.|4.3|186|
 |8.1|..6|...|
 |---+---+---|
 |.58|9..|.71|
 |..6|.5.|8.2|

A pair 25 in R3. A pair 17 in R3/B2

A hidden pair 36 in C5.

I apologize, but I have been distracted and not on the site for a number of days.
