Couldn't see the X wing for the life of me. But there's also an alternative
13-7 XY wing to see it off (pivot r9c1)

pivoting at r9c1 creates wings (of 9) at r9c9 and r8c2 so r8c9 <>9
Is this what is described as an xy chain or what?

George,

Yes. This is a short XY chain, but you did not mention using R7C3.

Code:
+-----------+---------+-----------+
| 6  4   9  | 2  3  5 | 1   8 7   |
| 8  2   7  | 6  9  1 | 4   3 5   |
| 5  1   3  | 4  7  8 | 9   2 6   |
+-----------+---------+-----------+
| 7  5   4  | 8  2  6 | 3   9 1   |
| 13 38  2  | 9  14 7 | 6   5 48  |
| 9  6   18 | 5  14 3 | 28  7 248 |
+-----------+---------+-----------+
| 4  378 18c| 17 58 9 | 258 6 238 |
| 2  89d 5  | 3  6  4 | 7   1 8-9 |
|13b 379 6  | 17 58 2 | 58  4 39a |
+-----------+---------+-----------+

If a is 3 ...
The X-wing on 8 is in R58.

Keith
