Play this puzzle at the Daily Sudoku site
This reminded me of looking a bit like a W wing
r3c6 <> 1
as then r3c7=6, <36> pair in r1c45 leaves no space for a 6 in box 1 |

Yes. If we start with the ANP <136> in r1c45
(1=36)r1c45-r2c6=r2c7-(6=1)r3c7 ==> r3c6 < > 1 |

Not very elegant two step:
346xyzwing@R3C3, -3R!C3
then: 456xywing@R2C1. -6R1C5
Early Earl
PS Sorry, it is 256xywing. Another senior moment.

Also just noticed that r1c7 <> 1 with the same logic as the start post |

Yes - or just extend the same chain as above by one link
(1=36)r1c45-(6)r2c6=r2c7-(6=1)r3c7-r1c7
Whether the ANP is 1 or 36 then r1c7 < > 1 |

What if you don't use the ANP and say if r3c6=1, r2c6=2, r2c1=5, r2c7=6 and then r3c7 is back to 1
(Which is how I saw it the first time, before I noticed the W wing similarity) |

You don't have to use the ANP. Batman's teeth. Of course it still shows R3c7 as 1 but other chains are there of course.
So have a go at notating it - Eureka! One of the common languages of sudoku - others are available (eg Snyder).
(1-236)r3c6=(2-6)r2c6-(2=5)r2c1-(5=6)r2c7-(6=1)r3c7 so r3c7 = 1
Which of course also proves that r3c6 can not be 1 |
