				This one is somewhat challenging:

 	  | Code: | +-------+-------+-------+

| . . 6 | . 2 . | 1 . . |

| 5 1 . | 6 9 8 | . . 2 |

| . 2 . | . . . | . . . |

+-------+-------+-------+

| . 5 . | . . . | 6 3 . |

| . . . | 4 . 5 | . . . |

| . 9 7 | . . . | . 5 . |

+-------+-------+-------+

| . . . | . . . | . 2 . |

| 6 . . | 1 5 3 | . 4 8 |

| . . 9 | . 4 . | 7 . . |

+-------+-------+-------+

 |

It is possible to solve it with one advanced step; but, good luck finding it! Or, you can do as I first did and hack away at it in various ways. |

so far, only the hacking solution: xy-chains starting with parts of the (useless) 18-19-89 xy-wing.

I'll try to find the advanced step tomorrow

edit: Medusa did it. I started with one of those "4"s that all hang together in a big chain/loop. No time now, I'll write it down tomorrow. |

hmm, I got a UR, but now I am lost.

i am going to look for some xy-chains. |

I couldn't do it. (seems to be a troubling sign of addiction...hm.mental note. watch out) can't go away without writing it down. Here goes.

From this grid after basics (well, not sure just how basic)

 	  | Code: |

+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+

| 79      4g8     6        | 5       2       47       | 1       8g9     3        |

| 5       1       3        | 6       9       8        | 4       7       2        |

| 79      2       48       | 37      137     147      | 5       68r9    69       |

+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+

| 248     5       148      | 2789    178     1279     | 6       3       147      |

| 238     6       18       | 4       1378    5        | 28      19      179      |

| 2348    9       7        | 238     1368    126      | 28      5       14       |

+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+

| 14g8    48g     5        | 79      678     679      | 3       2       16       |

| 6       7       2        | 1       5       3        | 9       4       8        |

| 18      3       9        | 28      4       26       | 7       16      5        |

where I've marked just part of the medusa coloring ... just the green part plus the one "8" in r3c8....

from (g) r7c2=8 => r9c1=1 => r9c8=6

from (r) r3c8=8 => r3c8<>6 => r9c8=6

we get r9c8=6 and the puzzle is solved.

edit:

in other words, a discontinuous nice loop:

r9c8=6 has strong links to both r9c8=1 and r3c8=6 and from there it's alternating weak and strong links all the way around |

				| How's about a semi-remote naked pair in r5c3,r9c1 <18> connected by 1's and eliminating 8 from r456c1, solving the puzzle? |

That semi-remote naked pair (aka W-Wing) certainly does it.

I was referring to an XY Chain that pretty much follows nataraj's color path and removes <1> from R9C8.

Those who want to practice coloring from (or transporting) pincers can play around with digit <8> in this puzzle. |

I looked for W-Wings, but obviously missed this one. However, a simple XY-Chain established the same pincers and made the same eliminations. |
